Abdominal aortic aneurysm treatment by experts at Mayo Clinic in Florida

At Mayo Clinic, our experienced doctors collaborate to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms, which are potentially life-threatening bulges in the aorta. You’ll have the benefit of an expert team in approaches including watchful waiting, medication, or surgery. Innovative procedures that are not widely available are performed at our Jacksonville campus.

The importance of timely treatment

The size of the aneurysm is the main factor in determining the treatment approach. Smaller aneurysms are monitored regularly through ultrasound or CT scans, a process known as watchful waiting. Larger aneurysms may require surgery.

The biggest risk of aortic aneurysm is a rupture, which can cause severe internal bleeding and is responsible for about 200,000 deaths worldwide each year. Your risk goes up the larger an aneurysm grows. We will work with you to manage your risk and provide timely treatment.

An expert team on your side

Mayo Clinic doctors use the latest imaging technology to accurately diagnose abdominal aortic aneurysms. Tests may include ultrasounds, CT scans, MRIs and others.

Our surgeons have decades of experience in complex aneurysm repair, including many endovascular procedures.

With Mayo Clinic, your care is:

  • Convenient. We offer timely scheduling of appointments. If you need to see multiple specialists, we coordinate visits to make your care as seamless as possible. If follow-up care is needed, you may be able to schedule telemedicine appointments.
