Expert treatment options. Just for you.

At Mayo Clinic, your bladder cancer treatment plan will include the latest advancements in cancer care. Your care team will take the time to understand your cancer and your goals, and provide treatment options that meet your needs.

For some people, chemotherapy and radiation can be used without having to undergo a surgical procedure. When possible, we use state-of-the-art hypofractionated radiation treatments, which means you can receive larger doses of therapy over fewer treatment sessions. Emerging immunotherapies are also available to train your body's own cells to fight your bladder cancer.

If surgery is required to remove a bladder tumor, our experts ensure you will have the most thorough and complete tumor removal using a technology called blue light cystoscopy. With this procedure, a medication is applied to the bladder before tumor removal surgery. The medication causes cancerous tissues to glow bright red, making it easier to find and remove all the harmful tissue. With this technology, experts find 20% to 40% more bladder tumors than with traditional white light cystoscopy.

Your surgical team also has access to minimally invasive robotic surgery tools. This means your team can perform surgery with smaller incisions, fewer complications and shorter hospital stays. If your bladder must be removed to prevent cancer spread or recurrence, skilled experts at Mayo Clinic can perform neobladder reconstruction to build you a new, functional bladder.

These and other advanced treatments often begin as part of a clinical trial. Experts at Mayo Clinic are able to offer enrollment in multiple clinical trials for bladder cancer. This not only brings you the latest in treatment options, but also helps to discover new cures and set the standard for bladder cancer care in the future.

We offer these therapies with a quick and easy appointment process utilizing both in-person and virtual consultations. Many patients are seen within one week of their appointment requests and have access to Mayo Clinic expertise from the comfort of their own homes.
