The brain tumor team at Mayo Clinic offers a wide range of treatment options, including minimally invasive procedures. As a team they will guide you through the treatment plans to find the best choice for you.
These include:
- Open craniopharyngioma surgery (craniotomy), which involves opening the skull to access and remove tumor tissue.
- Minimally invasive craniopharyngioma surgery (transsphenoidal procedure), which involves inserting surgical tools through the nose and passing them through a natural corridor to access and remove tumor tissue.
- Advanced radiation therapies to precisely target tumor tissue and spare healthy tissue. These include proton beam therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery.
- Targeted therapy for papillary craniopharyngioma
- 7-Tesla MRI. This imaging system uses a stronger magnetic field to produce more detailed images of the body's interior. Detailed brain scans help Mayo Clinic care teams diagnose and treat patients with brain tumors. This advanced imaging technology is key to ensuring patients receive an accurate diagnosis to guide treatment.
