We’re with you every step of the way.
At Mayo Clinic, we use precise, endometriosis-focused ultrasound and MRI imaging to detect deep infiltrating endometriosis throughout the body and accurately assess the extent of disease.
You’ll have thorough counseling about the potential impact of disease, and your team will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that may include biopsy and excision of endometriosis lesions. If surgery is recommended, our experts are highly experienced in the most advanced techniques for aggressive excision of endometriosis.
In addition to gynecologic surgery specialists, your multidisciplinary team will include any other experts you may need, such as specialists in urology, cardiothoracic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and radiology. Working together, they will deliver a minimally invasive approach toward aggressively excising endometriosis – regardless of the location – and ensure that your treatment is thorough and complete.

Mayo Clinic Minute - When surgery for endometriosis is the answer
The endometriosis cells can cause a large inflammatory process throughout the entire body that can result in fatigue, nausea, it can affect the bowels, it can really affect every single organ system. Most frequently patients will experience pelvic pain or perhaps cramping with their menstrual periods. They can also develop pain with intercourse, pain with bowel movements, pain with urination. It really can be a whole body disease. Symptoms can be managed with over-the-counter medication or medication to stabilize hormones, but that doesn't cure the issue. The only way to really get to the root of endometriosis is surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is a less invasive option, commonly used to diagnose and treat endometriosis. With advanced technology, Dr. Megan Wasson says even more severe cases of endometriosis can be managed with a minimally invasive approach. So if we remove the disease, if we get the endometriosis out of the body, it can improve those symptoms and improve quality of life. For the Mayo Clinic News Network, I'm DeeDee Stiepan.
Patient Testimonials
What sets Mayo Clinic apart is not just their competency, but their willingness to treat you as an individual and engage you as a patient. You feel that dynamic. It gave me an optimism about my treatment because I felt fully informed, and I felt like I was a partner in making these choices.
