Choose Mayo Clinic for the benefits of our comprehensive Foot and Ankle Surgery Center. You will see specialists who collaborate to provide you with the latest in advanced and innovative nonsurgical and surgical treatments.

We provide thorough evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of foot and ankle problems, including bunions, arthritis of the foot and ankle, sports injuries, and more. Our podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons work together and are experienced in treating both simple and complex conditions of the foot and ankle.

At Mayo Clinic, we often start with nonsurgical treatment. However, if pain is limiting what you want to do, the next step may be surgery. This approach enables us to provide you with personalized, highly coordinated care. We work hard to offer you the right diagnosis and treatment, the first time.

The podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons collaborate with each other but also work with other providers to meet your needs. Mayo Clinic brings together the expertise of physical therapists, athletic trainers, cast technicians, vascular specialists, physiatrists, internal medicine specialists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists.

Innovative nonsurgical approaches

Mayo Clinic offers advanced diagnostic approaches and nonsurgical treatments. Your care team will work with you to determine the right approach for you. Initial evaluation and treatment may include shoe recommendations, inserts, gait analysis, splinting/casting, ultrasound procedures, physical therapy, injections (steroid, platelet rich plasma –PRP, stem cell), and shockwave therapy.

Ultrasound diagnosis and injections. We use ultrasound to help provide accurate diagnosis and treatment for foot and ankle problems. This allows us to noninvasively view anatomic structures and target treatment.

Gait analysis. We use specialized technology to analyze your walking and running. It can help us understand your biomechanics, identify and correct problems, and potentially reduce the risk of reinjury.

Shockwave therapy. This state-of-the art, noninvasive technology is proven to help foot and ankle problems that surgery does not always resolve. Shockwave therapy can be helpful for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, ankle sprains, and tendinitis.

Advanced surgical treatments

Our orthopedic surgeons are experienced in treating the most complex issues, such as foot and ankle deformity, ankle replacement, and revision surgery.

Foot and ankle deformity correction. We correct mild to severe foot and ankle deformity using advanced techniques. Usually, bone work corrects the deformity and tendon transfers balance the foot. This comprehensive approach helps patients experience more functional and long-lasting results.

Patient-specific instrumentation for total ankle replacements. If you have ankle arthritis and are a candidate for an ankle replacement, we perform surgery using techniques and instrumentation specific to your anatomy and needs. This improves efficiency in surgery, as well as fit and function for your ankle.

Ankle arthroscopy. We use minimally invasive techniques that often result in shorter recovery time and better patient outcomes.

Sports injuries. Athletes get an accurate diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic foot and ankle injuries. Our team can address all kinds of sports injuries, such as stress fractures, ankle sprains, and other nonsurgical sports-related conditions. Our surgeons efficiently address all acute injuries that need surgery with the goal of getting you back to sports safely and as soon as possible.
