Innovative approaches.

To evaluate and manage your care, Mayo Clinic experts use advanced neuroimaging techniques including: 

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
  • Magnetic resonance angiogram and vessel wall imaging. 
  • Perfusion MRI to measure blood flow through vessels. 
  • BOLD MRI to measure the reserve of the blood in the brain and provide critical information about the need for surgery. It frequently replaces radioactive scans. 
  • Cerebral arteriography. 
  • Positron emission tomography (PET) scan. 
  • Single-photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) scan.
  • Transcranial Doppler ultrasound. 

Our surgeons are skilled in direct and indirect revascularization procedures including encephaloduroarteriosynangiosis (EDAS) and encephalomyosynangiosis (EMS). We use the latest in 3D imaging to continuously refine and improve surgical techniques and outcomes.

You’ll have a multidisciplinary team of Mayo Clinic specialists including neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroradiologists – all working together to understand how the disease is affecting your quality of life and to personalize your treatment plan.
