Spine Tumor Care by Experts at Mayo Clinic

Choose Mayo Clinic for world class, comprehensive care by the most highly specialized spinal tumor experts in the world, with advanced treatments and technologies designed to reduce hospital stays, lower complication rates, and shorten recovery times.

Mayo Clinic is one of the highest volume neurosurgical centers in the country, with deep experience in treating all tumor types. This includes tumors that began within the spinal cord (such as a glioma, astrocytoma, or ependymoma), and tumors in the membrane surrounding the spinal cord or in the nerve roots reaching out from the spinal cord (such as a meningioma, neurofibroma, schwannoma, or nerve sheath tumor).

Advanced diagnosis and treatment.

Treatment for a spinal tumor may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or other medications. Sometimes the right procedure is no procedure. Mayo Clinic experts are paid a fixed salary. They are not paid based on the number of procedures or tests ordered. This means we will recommend surgery only when necessary, and when other less-invasive approaches have been ruled out.

With Mayo Clinic, you can expect:

  • Rapid testing and assessment using the latest imaging and diagnostic tools available. Our neurologists and neurosurgeons work with experienced nerve tissue analysts to identify spinal cord tumors.
  • Cutting-edge treatment approaches. This includes 3D printing technology for surgical planning and precision. Our surgeons are skilled in minimally invasive procedures and surgery enhancing technology to allow for greater precision, smaller incisions, lower complications rates, and a quicker recovery.
  • Access to new developments and treatments through Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. Mayo Clinic also participates in regional, national, and international cooperative groups and collaborations devoted to cancer research.
