At Mayo Clinic’s Sports Cardiology Clinic, our specialists are athletes and heart experts. We understand your passion for your sport or your job and want to use our expertise to help you on your journey.

Comprehensive assessment tailored to you.

Your comprehensive assessment will include: 

  • Expert sports cardiology evaluation of your cardiovascular health and the unique consequences of high levels of activity.
  • Strategies to help you improve training and performance. 
  • Treatments to allow you to return to your sport or activity when possible. 

We understand the demands placed on athletes at all levels, including requirements for screening and clearance to play, and the potential impact of medical recommendations on a career. At Mayo Clinic, your care team discusses your concerns with you and shares in decision-making about next steps. 

Imaging, testing, and expertise for athletes. 

Your Sports Cardiology Clinic team includes exercise physiologists, cardiologists and advanced practice providers – all with extensive knowledge in cardiology and exercise physiology, and the risks and impacts of high levels of physical activity. 

We use:

  • Cardiac exercise testing, including VO2 testing, customized to your specific level of fitness, symptoms, and exercise concerns.
  • Advanced cardiac imaging modalities these include echocardiography, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, and nuclear imaging. 
  • Heart rhythm monitoring and analysis.

Our collaborative approach to medicine also allows us to bring in additional specialists to your team as needed, in areas such as:  

  • Sports medicine including orthopedics and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
  • Sports psychology.
  • Cardiovascular subspecialties in treating valve disease, congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, heart failure, and heart rhythm disorders.
