Your team includes global experts in surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, gastroenterology, radiology, pathology and more. Their collective expertise, experience and teamwork deliver the best cancer care and enhance your health and well-being.

  • What might take weeks or even months at other centers can be done in a matter of days at Mayo Clinic through highly coordinated, streamlined care.

  • You get nuanced treatment of underlying conditions and complex scenarios.
  • Our team provides a thorough evaluation, giving you an accurate staging and diagnosis, which is critical to developing the right treatment plan.
  • You get access to cutting edge treatments such as minimally invasive (laparoscopic or robotic) surgery, intraperitoneal chemotherapy and clinical trials.

As one of the most experienced centers in the U.S. for treating stomach cancer, we routinely provide second opinions. If you have already been seen at another center, we can help clarify or confirm your diagnosis and treatment plan.

Specialty care uniquely available at Mayo Clinic.

Mayo Clinic experts treat all types and stages of stomach cancer, including early, rare or metastatic cases. Our team offers a full spectrum of treatment options, including endoscopic resection, surgery, proton beam therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, intraperitoneal therapy and clinical trials. We incorporate the latest research to provide innovative care and increase survival.

  • If you have the CDH1 genetic variant, we offer minimally invasive preventative surgery to eliminate your risk of developing hereditary diffuse gastric cancer.
  • Our surgeons treat 50 to 70 people every year with HIPEC, making us a leading center for HIPEC and increasing survival for people with stomach cancer.
  • Using advanced tests, our team evaluates you at intervals, ready to adjust your treatment as needed.
  • We offer remote monitoring of gastrointestinal symptoms after surgery through a smartphone-based app that provides real-time feedback to let you know if what you are experiencing is typical or may be concerning and communicates those results to your surgical team.

Your treatment plan is customized for your tumor, your genetics, your cancer staging and, most importantly, your goals.

More surgical experience, a better outcome.

Mayo Clinic offers hope through surgical treatment options for those who have been told their cancer is inoperable. Our surgeons’ extensive experience leads to fewer complications and better outcomes.

  • While other hospitals may use minimally invasive surgery in select circumstances, at Mayo Clinic, most of our gastric procedures are performed minimally invasive.
  • Our surgical oncologists work alongside thoracic surgeons, successfully performing multiorgan surgeries that are considered inoperable elsewhere.
  • We have surgeons exclusively dedicated to performing minimally invasive gastrectomies.
